Striking statement necklace pairs vintage graduated silver-plated Navajo-style pearls with a distinctive hand-carved bone cross pendant, creating a bold piece that blends Southwestern influence with artisanal character. The necklace features beautifully graduated round silver pearls ranging from 5 mm to 12 mm.
Suspended from the strand is a substantial carved bone cross set in Tibetan silver, measuring approximately 2.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. The cross is framed with a decorative edge and displays a floral motif on the reverse, allowing the pendant to be worn either side.
The necklace measures 23 inches in length and is finished with a secure silver lobster clasp, making it comfortable to wear while maintaining a strong visual presence.
Tibetan silver is not solid silver; it is a copper-based alloy finished with a silver-toned plating. Over time, natural wear may reveal subtle copper tones beneath the surface. The last photo shows some exposed copper, where the bail was soldered. This natural aging process adds authentic character and a distinctive vintage patina that many collectors appreciate.
Suited to everyday wear or layered with other Southwestern or artisan jewelry.
I purchased the Navajo pearls from a vintage vendor and purchased the cross new from an Indian import vendor. The pearls were originally on a silver chain, I have re-stung them on steel cable and finished with a bone bead and a sterling lobster clasp.
One of a kind.
